नगर की स्वच्छता की परवाह और उसके प्रति उनका रवैया स्पष्ट करने वाला दस्तावेज। उल्लेखनीय है कि नगर में पानी और बिजली की व्यवस्था की दृष्टि से राजनांदगांव अग्रणी रहा है।

5th May 1930

Municipal Committee, 

                            I have written more than once and pointed

out that the town should be kept clean and the sanitation

improved. I had been this morning and I am really sorry to

have to write that I found the town in a much poorer con-

dition than last time. This morning even the roads were not

cleaned. The drains are in a filthy condition. The rubbish is

lying in places without being removed out of town. I cannot

see any progress with the drainage scheme. In short after I

finished my round of the town I came to the conclusion that

this part of the work has not worried the municipality very

much. I had given instructions to the municipal Secretary

personally more than once that the people building houses

must not collect material near the road. I find that even this

has not been stoped. The roads are far from wide and if this 

sort of collection is allowed It is very difficult to drive,

especially if there is a cart or a car coming from the other

side. This is the last time I am writing about this subject

and if I find that there is no improvement it will be my

painful duty to take such steps as I think proper.

अनुवाद-

मैंने एकाधिक बार लिखा है और इंगित किया है कि शहर को साफ रखा जाना चाहिए और स्वच्छता में सुधार होना चाहिए। मैं आज सुबह निकला था और मुझे यह लिखते हुए सचमुच खेद हो रहा है कि मैंने पिछली बार की तुलना में शहर को अधिक दयनीय स्थिति में पाया। आज सुबह सड़कों की भी सफाई नहीं की गई। नालियां गंदी हालत में हैं। कूड़ा, बाहर हटाए बिना, शहर में ही जगह-जगह पड़ा हुआ है। जल निकासी योजना में भी मुझे कोई सुधार नहीं दिखा। संक्षेप में, नगर भ्रमण पूरा कर मैं इस नतीजे पर पहुंचा कि नगर पालिका इन कामों की बहुत परवाह नहीं है। मैंने स्वयं म्यूनिस्पल सचिव को एकाधिक बार निर्देश दिए थे कि घर बनाते हुए लोग सड़क के पास सामग्री इकट्ठा न करें। मैंने पाया कि यह भी नहीं रुका है। सड़कें चौड़ी नहीं हैं और अगर इस तरह के संग्रह स्वीकृत हो तो वाहन चलाना बहुत मुश्किल है, खासकर यदि कोई गाड़ी या कार दूसरी तरफ से आ रही हो। मैं इस विषय मैं आखिरी बार लिख रहा हूं और अगर मुझे लगता है कि कोई सुधार नहीं हुआ है तो यह मेरा पीड़ादायी कर्तव्य होगा कि मैं ऐसे कदम उठाऊं, जो मुझे उचित लगे।
